Teams

The ten franchise identities that have shaped ND Wiffleball since 2021.

THE ORIGINAL 4 - FOUNDED 2021

South Bend Wifflers / Seven Deadly Zyns

Originally founded as the South Bend Wifflers by Patrick Thompson, the franchise that would rebrand to the Seven Deadly Zyns had the first pick in the 2021 season where Patrick selected Casey, a duo that would remain together and create the identity of the team through 2025. The team is the only franchise to win two World Series so far. The Zyns embodied an offensive mindset, taking the philosophy that it doesn’t matter how many runs you allow if you have the best offense in the league. In 2025, the team was dedicated as the “Senior team”, becoming a collection of off-campus seniors. Bennett Ruskusky serves as captain for the 2026 season.

Storm

Founded by league founder Michael Pilger, the Storm always fell just short of the big game in its early years. Similar to the Zyns, Pilger drafted Glavy and the duo remained together for all 4 years. The Storm finally got over the hump winning the 2024 World Series. The Storm have a fairly balanced approach but slightly favor hitting historically.

Beavers / Silverbacks

Founded by other league founder Matthew Doty, the Silverbacks, originally named Beavers, remain the best franchise in the history of the league, never having missed a World Series. After winning the World Series in their inaugural season, the Silverbacks have lost 4 consecutive World Series, often in dramatic fashion. However, their dominance is unmatched in the regular season. Doty consistently kept the Silverbacks as the premier pitching powerhouse in the league.

Best Finish - 1st | Worst Finish - 2nd

Midnight

Founded by Jack Terry, the Midnight have struggled for much of their history, but nonetheless have accounted for dramatic moments in playoff races. Since Joey Thomalla took over in 2023, the team has had one of the best defensive records in the league and gained some consistency in personnel.

Best Finish - 2nd | Worst Finish - 9th
THE SECOND WAVE - FOUNDED 2022

Stiff Wifflers

Founded by Patrick Fitzgerald, the Stiffies are named in homage to Alumni Hall’s old interhall wiffleball team. Fitzgerald took over as captain after winning a World Series with the Silverbacks and selected future Hall of Famer Patrick Sullivan. The duo would remain together for 3 years and contribute to the HR-heavy strategy the team employed.

Best Finish - 5th | Worst Finish - 9th

Underdawgs

Founded by Connor Dove, the Underdawgs were the first expansion team to be taken over by Freshmen. Connor Dove and Danny Donegan remained as the 1-2 punch for the Underdawgs for 3 years and made them perennial contenders. The Underdawgs are also the only expansion team to ever win a World Series after a 2025 overhaul that gave them a deep roster that took them all the way.

Best Finish - 1st | Worst Finish - 10th

Saudi Arabian Yard Goats / Drunken Sluggers / Twin Titans

Franchise lineage: Saudi Arabian Yard Goats → Drunken Sluggers → Twin Titans

Originally founded by Kade Hennessy, the franchise now named Twin Titans has undergone complete roster change many times. The Yard Goats were competitive in the 2022 season, but had some personnel issues in 2023 and withdrew from the league. Freshmen including Grant Spielbauer and Nick Hulgrave took over the team in 2024, but when Grant stepped down as captain, ROTY contender Weston Lorenz took over the team in 2025 and led them to a top-seeded finish. The team is now more stable and looks to contend in the near future.

Best Finish - 3rd | Worst Finish - 10th
THE THIRD WAVE - FOUNDED 2023

Goofy Goobers

Founded by rising sophomore Guy Maiorano after a season on the Stiffies, the Goobers are widely considered to be the most cursed franchise. Many players that have average or below-average seasons on the Goobers go on to have successful and award-winning careers, through no fault of the Goobers management. Jacob Olejnik takes over as Goobers captain with Maiorano’s graduation in 2025.

Best Finish - 6th | Worst Finish - 7th

Ball Busters

The second of three franchises to be founded by a Freshman, Evan Reid founded the Ball Busters. The Ball Busters have found success in large part due to Matt Baldwin, still the only player outside of the class of ‘25 to win an MVP award. The team returns Evan Reid and veteran JT Kaiser this year, hoping to qualify for the World Series for the first time.

Best Finish - 4th | Worst Finish - 6th
THE FINAL EXPANSION - FOUNDED 2024

Dirty Dawgs

Founded by one-year legend Colin Dwyer, the Dirty Dawgs unique story and performances make for one of the most competitive franchises. Despite being an almost all-Freshman team, the Dirty Dawgs qualified for the semifinals in their inaugural season and have lost to the eventual champions in both of their seasons so far.
